BEAUMONT — The Art Studio, Inc. (TASI) will host an exhibition of paintings by Caleb Sims during the month of May. TASI will hold a reception for the exhibit on Saturday, May 7 from 7-10 p.m., which is free and open to the public. The exhibition is titled “What I’ve Become”.
Sims won The Art Studio’s annual juried exhibition, TASIMJAE (The Art Studio Inc. Members’ Juried Art Exhibition) in 2021, which granted him the opportunity to present a solo exhibit this year. He will be showing a series of oil paintings on panel.
“This body of work is a series of self-portraits,” Sims said, “I wanted to stray away from conventional self-portraiture by finding ways to juxtapose or blend myself into different characters and environments.”
Born in Crosby, TX, Sims received an associate degree in fine arts from Lee College in Baytown, TX, then attended Lamar University where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting.
“I would like people to think of the many things we experience in our lives that make us who we are and things we have in common,” said Sims. “For me, these paintings depict some of the influences for different parts of myself. I hope they enjoy and relate to some of the pop culture references that grew up with.”
“Caleb is a great example of an up and coming artist and we’re excited to be showing his work in our main gallery,” said TASI executive director Greg Busceme.
The Art Studio’s galleries, located at 720 Franklin St. in Beaumont, are open for viewing by the public from noon to 5pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
