Victor Higginbotham’s “As I See It…”

In TASI’s Maudee Carron Gallery

The Art Studio, Inc. is excited to be featuring tenant-artist Victor Higginbotham.

It doesn’t take long to realize that Victor is a unique creature. This Cali-Cajun has deep family ties to Southeast Texas and Western Louisiana but has lived in California as well as Dallas and Houston.

Educated at Lamar University, he earned a degree in illustration and graphic design, there he learned to express himself using many mediums and in many styles.  That versatility was a key factor in the success of his career as a commercial artist.

Victor’s natural state was to be a rather laid back personality but as his hard work and luck would have it, he also found a group of artist friends known as “The Ramona Group” to be key to his development.  The members of the group, which still meet weekly via Zoom or in person, drove him to become the best he could be at his craft and especially developing his ability to present himself and his work. Much like Beaumont’s Victoria House, “The Ramona Group” was originally a group of artists who lived together in a house in Houston. One of the members, artist Larry McIntire, visited Lamar and adopted Victor into the Group.

In 1993, Victor co-founded a design studio, Litigation Art Works (LAW), a design studio which produced courtroom graphics.  Since retiring, Victor has been able to focus on his fine art practice. He has both a space in the ceramics studio at TASI and a home studio in his family’s home in China, TX.  There he has recently begun working with his cousin and artistic protégé, Kamryn McCray.

His show in the Maudee Carron Gallery will consist of acrylic and mixed media paintings, pottery, paper mȃché, giclée prints of his digital art, and found object sculptures. His versatility is still, as always, on display. We invite everyone to come see “As I See It…” opening on The first Thursday of April, the 7th, 5- 8pm.
