I fell in love with art at a young age. My mother would always do crafts with me. She was a painter also, back in the day. In 7th grade was my first art class. I continued with my artistic development in high school at Port Neches-Groves. I have been creating art ever since.
I am participating in several art shows this year. Gulf Coast museum in January, Hardy and Nance studio in Houston in February, Quilt show at the Civic Center in March, White Lights Cool Night in Baton Rouge in April, Flower show in June at Music studio, Boston Ave market in October, and Art Walk in Port Neches in November.
I got into painting furniture about 8 years ago. I work with everything from simple dressers to restoring vintage 100+ year old buffets. I enjoy working inside my studio, but will travel to do custom makeovers for clients. I also paint on jean jackets and blue jeans for school spirit décor. In the studio I am constantly surrounded by multiple projects, keeping my mind active with creativity. My studio is currently inside the Kyle building at The Mont on Orleans St. I can be found on Facebook.com/TheClassyCoats.
I would say my art is close to “Fauvism” style; vivid colors and simplified subjects. I paint on canvas, material, metal, and wood wood with acrylics. This show, I do have some sea glass with epoxy pieces. I have a wide range of subjects I like to paint, but ocean animals are my favorite. While making no attempt to illustrate actual sea life in my painting, I want my creations to look alive. Living with beautiful works of art, reminds us to slow down and reconnect with nature, even if it’s just for a moment.
The beach is my happy place. When vacationing in Galveston to Florida, I find myself looking for local artist to check out to get inspiration. I love seeing their designs inside beach cabins, Airbnb houses, restaurants, and shops. So a Big “Thank You” to people who buy Local Art. As an Artist, we ALL thank you! I attended Lamar for my RN degree and I have been nursing for 26 years now. I love my career and have been through the struggles of Covid while working in the ICU. Painting for me is an outlet to rejuvenate and make time for myself. I think my dream retirement plan would be at street artist in the French Quarter in New Orleans, (minus the hot month of August, ha-ha). Meeting new people every day, who are carefree, just touring the city, and possibly looking for that one-of-a-kind art piece, from me!
