The Art Studio, Inc. Members Jurored Art Exhibition (TASIMJAE) opened Sept. 5 with a virtual unveiling. More than 120 works were submitted, from which juror Dennis Nance chose 51 pieces by 41 artists for the exhibit. The show is on display at The Studio through the end of the month and visitors are welcome to view the show in person, by appointment, during TASI’s regular hours. COVID protocols are in place.
TASIMJAE 2020 Juror Statement: “Thank you to the members & staff of The Art Studio, Inc. for inviting me to jury this year’s annual member exhibition. TASIMJAE 2020 is a show that jumped through quite a few hoops to come together. Originally postponed from March, I appreciate TASI’s ability to shift the exhibition to a virtual experience. This show managed to come together as Hurricane Laura forced us all to shift our focus to preparing for a worst-case scenario for the Gulf Coast. My thoughts go out to all those impacted by this storm & the ongoing challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic. I appreciate all the efforts each artist made to submit their work for the exhibition despite these circumstances. Selections for this exhibition were made through images of submitted works. As we all experience the outside world through primarily through screens these days, I imagine there may be some works that would have fared better through an in-person viewing. Regardless, I appreciate the opportunity to see what is being made by artists working in the Beaumont community.”
Dennis Nance isan artist and is Curator for the Galveston Arts Center where he organizes exhibitions featuring work by contemporary artists from Texas and the Gulf Coast region.
