Statement from TASIMJAE 2023 Juror, Tanja Peterson:
“I am honored to be the juror for this year’s TASIMJAE. It was a joy viewing works by so many talented emerging as well as established artists. I was astonished to learn about the broad age range and applaud everyone who submitted their work. As always, it is hard to pick only a certain number of entries out of many. I viewed the entirety of the works first before starting to narrow them down. I knew that I wanted to include a variety of mediums, styles, and techniques to highlight the versatility of the artists. I took time with each piece to make my selection.
The subject matter did not play a dominant role in my decision making but rather the overall aesthetics, how everything comes together, the balance of colors, and the unity that results from the combination of all its component parts.
I congratulate the artists who I have selected as well as the artists who had the courage to submit their works. I would like to tell those who are not included to not take “no” as “never”. Every juror has a different angle to seeing art and its possibilities.
I wish all of you the best in your future endeavors!
