Join us for a MEET THE ARTIST on June 18th, 2022 at The Avenue Coffee & Café
“We recently moved from San Antonio, where we lived for twelve years. I have been married for twenty years to my husband, Caleb. We have three daughters.
I earned a degree in Interior design and art from Abilene Chistiain University in 2001. I am now a former Architectural Design instructor, and was resident artist at the San Antonio School for the Performing Arts, designing and creating stage props. I was also represented by artist Albert Gonzales’ Southtown Art Gallery.
My collection for the show is called Pretty Like Palm Springs. This collection is influenced by my love for mid-century women artists. I wanted these pieces to have sixties energy, and present day empowerment. The works of Grace Hartigan have always influenced my collections. As a pioneer in neo-expressionism, she felt something was missing in her art if it didn’t contain recognizable reference to real life. Her combination of abstract expressionism and figurative art was rejected by critics, yet I admire her for standing her ground, painting as she pleased, and advocating for freedom in art style. Pretty Like Palm Springs collection shows a personal narrative, my own recognizable references, bringing past and present modern women together.”
