“No Solid Surface” by Brandi Hamilton showing May 5 in the Maudee Carron Gallery

The Art Studio, Inc. will host an exhibition of photography by Brandi Hamilton during the month of May. There will be a free public reception for the exhibit, entitled “No Solid Surface,” on Thursday, May 5 from 5-8 p.m.

Beaumont native Hamilton served in the air force for 20 years before returning home to pursue a BFA in Photography at Lamar University, studying with Keith Carter and Prince Thomas. She uses lens-based media to produce silver gelatin and digitally printed images.

“Art school and the many wonderful and eccentric professors have given me the gift of metaphor, translated visual lexicons, and inspired the desire to create an expression of my personal experiences,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton said her art is influenced by her innate curiosity and analytical mind.

“I want to comprehend the puzzles of how things work and what makes people tick,” she said.

“This work stems out of my own childhood dreams to explore space and from the career I actually had in satellite operations. I’ve stripped away the technical jargon I was immersed in to explore the scientific applications in a visual form.”

“After seeing Brandi’s work develop over several years, it’s wonderful to see how her art reflects her as a well-rounded person and artist with an attention to detail,” said TASI executive director Greg Busceme.

The Art Studio’s galleries, located at 720 Franklin St. in Beaumont, are open for viewing by the public from noon to 5pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
