The Art Studio, Inc. (TASI) will host an exhibition of paintings by Karen Lynn Sanchez from February 4th through the 25th. The public is invited to a free reception on Saturday, February 4 from 7-10 p.m. with refreshments provided.
Sanchez passed away only months before her exhibition was scheduled to open in TASI’s main gallery, so her final works of art will be shown posthumously.
The artist’s sister, Sharin, offered this brief biography:
Karen Lynn Sanchez had a vision and talent for art in her early years of life. Always drawing on anything she could get her hands on. During her formative years in middle school and high school, she had teachers that encouraged her art. Through her high school years at Beaumont Charlton Pollard, her love of painting started to grow. Her constant asking to take classes with Beaumont artist Alfred Gaytan helped her to find her vision of style and types of painting. Through the years, she painted different styles, to include expressionist, abstract, and modernism.
Karen Lynn was Bipolar-Manic Depressive but her creativity with her paintings was astonishing. She always told me that her mind was full of art just waiting to be painted. The Art Studio gave her that place to be herself. After an illness robbed her of the ability to see certain colors and the use of her hand movements, she adapted to using her fingertips, knuckles, and hands to paint. She refused to let any disability rob her of her love to paint. Karen Lynn never quit painting even after losing her sight in her right eye. It only encouraged her to fight the good battle.
The Art Studio’s galleries, located at 720 Franklin St. in Beaumont, are open for viewing by the public from noon to 5pm, every Tuesday through Saturday.
