We are makers. Each of us producing something that has our unique signature that we hope the public appreciates at some point in time. Not for the money completely, but for the affirmation. I think all artists look for some form of affirmation. It gives us that nudge that propels us into the creative fray and the act of making begins again. You know, struggle. I’ve used that word before to say good-bye to fellow artists. Struggle is the battle within ourselves every time we pick up a tool or a brush and face our doubts (my doubts?) about the worthiness of our work and its appeal to our audience. Struggle is to continue to believe in ourselves and what we are doing and to accept that all of this takes time - creation time. Not the days you thought about making art, but the times you do it! For work to progress we must produce finer and finer versions of the images that swim in our imaginations.
The beauty of all of this is that we find ourselves and find better versions of ourselves as the life journey continues. There is no statute of limitation on our creativity; there is no end except by our own choice. When do you wedge the last ball of clay? When do you put down the brush? It would be tantamount to refusing to eat!
We are makers. We will leave behind all we create to be shared and taken tossed and loved. Our work our spirit and our passion will enrich our community for a very long time.
