I was thrilled at the great turn out at the tenant exhibition, “ARTOPIA” on a weather-wise “not bad” summer night. It is a chance to see all our patrons, make new friends, and meet the artists. The studio is a laboratory where artists experiment with materials, color, design, construction, and completion. In these laboratories, each artist is faced with the daunting task of producing some kind of artwork that has never been made before. It doesn’t have to follow the rules of design, balance, or composition. Origination means questioning everything about the work– trying to thwart the rules of form and composition and try to flip it upside down, throw it against the wall, sit and cry for a while, blow your nose, curse and try again. No one misses the art you didn’t make. Your legacy will be the work you leave behind as testament to the dedication of artists who bring truth and beauty to our lives. Never give up on your art.
