by TASI Executive Director, Greg Busceme, Sr.

I’m very excited about all the classes, workshops and new faces here at TASI. I am happiest when I see new artists fill our studio spaces and grace our gallery walls. I am happy with our rather broad array of classes, workshops and events for would-be writers, poets, visual artists, actors, musicians, performance artists, and any new idea you might think up. Our classes are designed for people who say they don’t have an artistic bone in their bodies. Well, their bones may not be artistic, but their brains are, and they are hungry for the ARTS. Go to our website artsudio.org/education and feed your brain some creativity. It will last a lifetime.
Be ready for The Art Studio, Inc. Members Juried Art Exhibition (TASIMJAE) coming in April. Start getting your entries to enter the show in March. Our juror this year is an artist, an architect and an avid collector with a broad knowledge of art history and acute awareness of local artists and their work. The juror’s selection is irrefutable. This exhibition is open to anyone at any age. Another happiness for me is seeing young artists whose family comes to see their work displayed on a gallery wall for the first time. I hope their experience with art is as fulfilling, challenging, and lasting as it has been for me and generations of artists from Southeast Texas.
Pick up an application at TASI or check your mail if you are already a member. Please follow the guidelines for entry. Pay special attention to the size limit and be sure the work is “ready to hang”. We will assist anyone who needs it when you submit your work for the show.
Remember, as a juried exhibition some pieces will have to go. This is a hard fact for all the arts- not everyone gets selected. The application process is the same in most juried exhibitions offering first, second and third places, along with a few Honorable Mentions. Some jurors will select a best of show if there are a lot of categories. Jurors have a job to do. Whether selected or not the value of your work does not diminish, and the juror’s opinion is one of many. This process plays out with galleries all the time.
The thing to take away from all this is you are never losing when you are making Art. Creation in all its forms are acts of valor and all work, great and small, will leave a mark on history and an indelible, legacy of beauty for future lovers of Art.
