Cissie Owen is a retired Lamar professor who has spent years teaching her students about how to get inside the destructive yet creatively warped mind of theoretical terrorists.
Since retirement she has found a new way to channel her creativity… the fiber arts!
For years she has had her own brand, Cathouse Creations, for her fiber crafts, and specializing in items like charming cat beds and mind bending quilts. In the last three years she has branched out to art wall hangings and fabric collages.
Her cute Sloth shown here is an example of her fabric collage art.
He hangs out in a rain forest of ferns. His sleepy eyelids defy gravity as he hangs from his long claws while his body bursts with colorful flowers. She says all her collages that arent of cats include at least one cat hidden in the design.
Owen’s work will be on display May 6th-25th and will include examples of her arts and crafts including: quilts, wall hangings, framed fabric collage and cat beds. If we could we’d include one of her amazing cats in the gallery but we cannot.
Owen has 17 cats housed at her Furry Purries Kitty Rescue which as a 501 c3. She currently cares for 17 cats. Including varieties with genetic mutations including: polydactyl, crossed-eyed, and heterochromia.
Sales of Owen’s work will go to support her art and the cats at the Furry Purries kitty rescue.
