BEAUMONT — Hollywood-based acting coach and author Chambers Stevens will return to Beaumont at the end of April for small-group intensive acting workshops, April 25-27, for adults and older teens. He will also teach a Disney 101 workshop for children and pre-teens and a 21st-Century Acting workshop for adults and teens on April 30.
The small group Intensives will be limited to groups of four and will be hosted in the home of Divergent Theater founder Ramona Young. The intensives will be held 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., April 25, 26 and 27. Cost is $150 per student per session. For more info and to reserve a spot visit www.divergenttheater.com.
“Chambers has been to Beaumont many times and has worked with a lot of students of all ages,” Young said. “We decided to offer these advanced intensive workshops in response to requests from students who asked for the chance to really go in-depth and explore Chambers’ techniques on a more one on one basis.”
Saturday, April 30 from 8 a.m. to noon, he will host his popular “Disney 101” workshop. Stevens is an expert on the Disney style and has a multitude of clients on Disney and Nickelodeon. He will teach how to focus on the laugh, how to make an impression on the casting director, and the in and outs of being on set. Cost is $95 per student.
From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Stevens will present “21st Century Acting,” where participants will learn the techniques used by the most successful actors for booking jobs, such as how to make your audition stand out, how to connect with the casting director and where to look for work. Cost is $95 per student.
“Chambers will not only cover acting exercises to make you better, but he will also provide valuable information on how to find work in Hollywood,” Young said.
“There’ll be some techniques on memorization and how to make your audition stand out. There will also be scene and monologue work. “A lot of the stuff will be effective for not only auditioning on the professional level, but also for kids who are planning for auditions for college acting programs or even local theater.”
The Disney 101 and 21st Century Acting workshops, hosted by Divergent Theater, will be held in the Assembly Hall at All Saints Episcopal School, 4108 Delaware in Beaumont.
Stevens said that many of his clients are auditioning for films and television shows that are being shot in Texas.
“I have a number of young actors from California who have been flown in to work on shows in Texas,” he said. “These Californians are not better ‘actors’ than the kids in Beaumont. But they are better auditioners.
“So that is what we will focus on — making them fantastic auditioners.”
Stevens is an established coach and the author of seven books of monologues, scenes and commercials for young actors. He is married to Betsy Sullenger, producer of the Disney Channel hit “Liv and Maddie,”and recently won five awards from Backstage, the national magazine for the film and television industry.
“Chambers’ workshops are always popular, so I expect the intensives to fill up very quickly, so don’t wait to sign up to get the chance to have real hands-on instruction from one of Hollywood’s very best coaches, ” Young said.
