The High Street Gallery will host an exhibition of 2D and 3D work by Walter Siefford, 7-10 p.m., March 9. The gallery is located in Victoria House, 2110 Victoria St. in Beaumont.
“Walter’s artwork is a combination of sculpture, painting and collage that often touches on personal subjects like religion and societal struggles,” Olivia Busceme, gallery director, said. “Viewers seem to identify themselves deeply with his pieces in such different ways, which makes his work both easy to connect with but slightly disturbing. We are very excited to be sharing his recent work with the public.”
Entry is free and the work will be for sale. Refreshments will be available at the event. The show, titled “The Ballad of Cicero,” is on display for one night only.
Siefford, originally from Pueblo, Colorado, said he hasn’t taken any art classes since primary school.
“A lot of my art is based on human anatomy so my education as a paramedic helps out a great deal,” Siefford said. “As far as learning the techniques, it was a mixture of a lot of guidance from some incredible people and a lot of trial and error.
“My biggest influence was my grandmother who passed time crafting, sewing and painting. She always put great importance on constantly learning and growing beyond oneself.”
He said his art is hard to describe overall, as he just creates things that run through his mind.
“The same day dreams that made me a constant fixture at the principal’s office now with the opportunity to come to life.”
The title of the exhibition refers to a new series Siefford will be showing based on the story of a marionette puppet.
“I don’t expect everyone to like my art. I’m far from a visionary or a unique talent,” he said. “I only hope that my art can inspire people to think.”
