“Eclectic Interpretations” by Jane and David Silvernail

Creative couple to fill TASI Main Gallery in November 2021

Artist David Silvernail is a mechanically minded genius who has worked on everything from cash registers to Xerox machines through his professional career. Jane, his wife, has a teaching degree from McNeese. These two amazing people have been married for 52 years and raised a family together. (Possibly one of the most challenging and creative acts two people can tackle together.)

Early in their marriage David began creating things from wood, specifically ship models, as a relaxation technique. Since then, David moved on to sculpting clay which led to wood carving. He carves different kinds of wood, Cypress knees, books, whatever appeals to him. Ideas, too, come from various sources. One of his favorite methods is realizing forms in found wood. It’s the process David enjoys and while he carves for himself, he says it pleases him when someone purchases a piece of his art.

Jane works mostly in assemblage, which allows her to use time-worn, broken, and discarded pieces to make new statements. Wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of acceptance of imperfections, while appreciating its beauty, informs her aesthetic. “I’m also adamant that we must be ecological for the survival of the planet.”  She challenges herself to use metal, wood and glass in her work.

To see the magic of the Silvernails and view their exhibition, “Eclectic Interpretations,” on display in the main gallery, November 6-24th, 2021. Reception November 6th, from 7-10 p.m. at The Art Studio, Inc. 720 Franklin St., Beaumont, Texas 77701.
