DOUBLE FEATURE – Two exhibitions open February 1st in TASI’s Galleries

The Art Studio, Inc. (TASI) will host an exhibition of photographs by Jerome Cabeen during the month of February in its Main Gallery. The exhibition which is titled “CALYPSO: Poets & Prophets” features Cabeen’s journey as the official photographer of Toronto-based band Kobo Town as he joined them in Canada, the United States, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Norway.

“I am focusing on Kobo Town, not only live in concert, but behind the scenes and in the streets of the locations where I’ve worked with them,” Cabeen said. “I have been the official photographer for them since 2019 although my friendship with them started in 2014.”

One thing Cabeen said he wants people to take away from the show is that art can bring friends even closer together.

“It can give them the opportunity to share a lifetime of memories in different locations, and it can help the artist to really understand the beautiful life and the beautiful world that photography can give to them.”

“Generally, I consider myself to be a street photographer and a music photographer. However, for ‘CALYPSO’ it is an amalgamation of both.”

Cabeen’s artistic influences include Vivian Maier, Josef Kuldeka, and Keith Carter.

“My biggest influence is my teacher Jim Turner who lives two doors down from me. He has been my teacher and my photographic conscience for the last 5 years. Earlie Hudnall out of Houston is a new photographer that I have recently learned about and his photography has had an incredible impact on me.”

“CALYPSO” will run concurrently with another solo exhibition in the Art Studio’s Maudee Gallery, a showing of mixed media artwork by Marcie Morgan titled “Art in Motion Flowing Through The Universe”. Both exhibitions will open on Saturday, February 1st with a public reception from 7pm until 10pm. The reception is free to attend and refreshments are provided.

The Art Studio’s galleries, located at 720 Franklin St. in Beaumont, are open for viewing by the public from noon to 5pm, Tuesday through Saturday, or after hours by appointment. The two exhibitions will be on view to the public from February 1st – 21st, 2025.
