DOKKAN!! The Japanese version of KAPOW!! Written in huge block letters, a flying fist cracks a jaw, Dokkan! Anime, manga, and other forms of Asian influenced images are wrapped around superpowers and enormous amounts of energy. The heroes and villains pull from their inner core to dispel their enemies through the power of their integrity and the struggle within themselves. This genre is embraced by a growing number of young artists with images tied to the above-mentioned genres of graphic art. I noticed a lot of images in this vein over the past few years and am intrigued by the adherence to some set of standards defined by the character portrayed much like we recognize Hercules by his lion cape and huge muscles and saints with their symbols held in their arms, Thor and his Hammer. It is a modern mythology holding to the notions of Honor, Fortitude, Charity, and Strength. I relish the opportunity to give voice and eyes to this movement. I want to see the work, but I want to see the artist’s own vision as opposed to imitating a character directly. I feel that recognition of these artists addresses a movement that is destined to grow and become a seamless addition to the vast art community, much like digital photography has been accepted once the technology has improved. This could be an annual event depending on the participation. I hope that the young artists of our community embrace the challenge of this call for entries and show us a new way to make art.

DOKKAN! CALL FOR ENTRIES:
As a contributing artist there are a few gallery guidelines we expect you to follow. If you do not follow these guidelines your work may not be included in the show.
1. All works entered must originate with the artist submitting them. No copyrighted materials, characters, or content from existing games, books, or any other media may be submitted for this exhibition. Digital and analog work is accepted, but AI generated images are not permitted. Artists must submit only their own original creations.
2. Work must be ready to hang. Framed or matted, it must have wire across the back by which to be hung by one hook on the wall. Sculpture must be stable and able to stand on its own.
3. Completely fill out both the Entry Application and an Entry Label. Each artist may submit one piece. Cut out the Entry Label and firmly attach to your artwork – on the lower back of 2D work or the bottom of 3D artwork. If your work is not for sale, mark the price as NFS. Please print clearly and fill out each form thoroughly and accurately.
4. Entries must be submitted in person during the designated entry dates. All submitted works must remain on view in the gallery until the end of the exhibition and picked up ASAP following the close of the show. Any works left for more than one month after the closing date will be considered a donation to TASI.
5. TASI takes a 30% commission on all sales, so work should be priced with that in mind. All transactions will be conducted by The Art Studio, Inc. Sales tax is collected at the time of sale. In the month after the show closes, TASI will mail a check for sold work to the address given.
6. All work is presented at your own risk, as TASI has no insurance for the protection of art. All precautions will be taken to protect the art but we are not responsible for loss or damage of your work, especially if it falls off the wall due to faulty hanging apparatus.
Your entry into the show implies your agreement with these guidelines.
