The Art Studio, Inc. (TASI) will host a solo exhibition featuring paintings by Melody Montero-Ortiz during the month of November. TASI will hold a reception for the exhibition in its Main Gallery on Saturday, November 2 from 7-10 pm, which is free and open to the public. The exhibition, titled “Capturing Light and Shadow,” will be on display from November 2-23, 2024.
Born in Tampa, Florida, Montero-Ortiz has called Beaumont, TX home since 1993. Her work has been influenced by John Singer Sargent, Nikolai Fechin, and Joaquin Sorolla. She has studied under the tutelage of Jerry Newman, Judy Crowe and Colley Whisson. As an artist, Montero-Ortiz focuses exclusively on oil painting as a medium. Her subject matter ranges from landscapes, seascapes, figurative work, still life, and her favorite: flowers.
Montero-Ortiz has been accepted to various juried exhibitions and has won recognition along the way. She paints with energy, color and expressive realism in mind, as well as a focus on light and shadows. Her paintings are a reflection of what she finds beautiful in the world around her.
“My goal as an artist is to be able to communicate visually in such a way as to stimulate the viewer’s imagination to see not only with their eyes but also with their hearts. I hope to evoke a mood to which viewers will respond. I hope to have the commitment, self-discipline, and perseverance that will take me further than where I am now”.
The Art Studio, Inc. is located at 720 Franklin Street, Beaumont, Texas. The gallery is open to the public for viewing from noon to 5pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays.
