Beaumont Community Players is calling for artists to create an unusual work of art at their theater.
Recently, BCP purchased two box car sized shipping containers with the help of funding obtained from Merrill Lynch of Beaumont. These 40-feet-long containers are being refitted as storage facilities for props and furniture used by the company. The units reside in the parking lot of the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts at 4155 Laurel in Beaumont.
BCP is asking artists to submit a rendering of their concept for painting the containers. The selected entry will be awarded a $250 stipend and the materials to bring their vision to reality.
“We are so fortunate to receive this funding from Merrill Lynch and create this much needed storage space,” John Manfredi, BCP executive director, said. “Looking at all the electrical boxes on street corners being painted around Beaumont gave us the idea to give a local artist an even bigger ‘canvas’ to show their talent. We are asking artists to stop by and look at these containers and share their creativity with us on how they would make something beautiful.”
Interested artists should submit a rendering to the theater by emailing John@beaumontcommunityplayers.com, attn:Storage Containers. The project is slated to be completed by mid-September to coincide with the opening of the BCP 2018-2019 season.
