I think the arts have some far-reaching effects that can give anyone a sense of satisfaction, a sense of self, and a growing confidence that allows all of us to be comfortable in our own skin. Our exhibition “The Art of Mental Health” gives the rest of us a peek into the thoughts, feelings and struggles of a unique community who benefit so much with something as simple as art.
We’re all in the soup – collectively separate as we navigate our personal spaces within the public sphere, merely trying to understand place and purpose.
Who are we within these spaces, none of these spaces, or those private spaces we hold near and dear to our hearts?
When people suffer from trauma, loss, or thoughts of suicide, artistic expression serves as a vital and nurturing component in the healing process. To engage the community in the healing power of art, during National Suicide Prevention Month, The Art Studio Inc. invites you to submit your original art to The Art of Mental Health
My work is raw and
immediate with very little planning or forethought. Lunatic Fringe is a collection of pieces that I
created during a very dark period in my life.

On the way out the door to work one recent morning, I was surprised by a lovely purple and white bloom on one of my hanging plants.
Thanks to all who came to participate in the Gumbo Clayfest ‘23 on July 6. The artists are jazzed to come back next year, and hopefully more artists will be presented! Look for a kiln workshop next February with Gary “Greenie” Greenberg, Tom Belden, Chris Leonard and possibly Steven Erickson, among others. The public is
