The Art Studio, Inc. will be hosting a themed fundraiser with live performances and a dance party from 7:30 until midnight on August 8. The Art Studio is located at 720 Franklin St. in Beaumont.
“With everyone returning from vacation we wanted a last hurrah of summer that will remind them why there is no place like home,” said the event’s organizer Jamie Barclay. “Not only are we raising money for an organization that has been a loyal friend to our community for over thirty years, but at the same time we are providing an opportunity for that community to experience something truly saturated with creativity from all different walks of art!”
The Art Studio is a non-profit community arts space and all of the funds will go into development and upkeep as well as educational programs throughout the year.
“The Art Studio’s open door policy creates a nurturing environment for local artists of all ages,” said Gina Garcia, events coordinator for The Art Studio. “We give back to the entire community through classes, workshops, art openings, and band nights, which allow us to share our passion and encourage others through art.”
Twenty-dollar pre-sale tickets are available online, and tickets will be sold for $25 at the door on the night of the event.
Barclay said, “If you have a pulse you will enjoy this party. It has something for everyone.”
The event will feature entertainment from DJ group Space Capsule, and local drag queens Olivia Gardner, Tisha Flowers, Ravenikka Knix and more. There will also be a multimedia art exhibit, and a silent auction. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 movie “Romeo + Juliet”.
“We have some fresh artists in this show and we plan to serve it up hot, hotter than a two dollar pistol! This is your bell ringing, it’s time to come and get it, Beaumont!” said Barclay.
The artists that will be exhibiting their work will include photographer Lacie Grant, painter Michael Crommett, tattoo artist Cara Edgar, video manipulation artist Michael Mason, fashion designer Annikah Pacheco, Art Studio tenant Yolanda Perez, and several others. The art work will be for sale with a portion of the sales going toward the organization.
“There’s never been anything quite like this before, and The Art Studio is the perfect place to have this kind of transformative experience,“ said Garcia. “We want to see people experiment with different costumes and creative styles to be part of the atmosphere.”
Beer and refreshments will be available at the event, compliments of Del Papa Distributing, Zummo Meat Co, Two Magnolias Café, and Tacos La Bamba, among other local delicacies.
