Alchemy Studio and Gallery hosts Cyclical, an exhibition of paintings by Sirena LaBurn, beginning June 8.
“The skeletons in my work emerged unexpectedly as I contemplated birth and death and upon reflecting on my experience of becoming a mother and the birth of my daughter,” LaBurn said. “Savoring the freshness of her new life led inevitably in contemplations of my own mortality and my daughter’s. Recently, the skeletons have given way to ‘fortune wheels’ or ‘wheels of life.’ These wheels reflect the nature of life, chance and the circumstances of life and death. As my daughter grows, I am continuously flooded by thoughts and anxieties about her future. With circular compositions, I attempt to find strong images which reflect on the cyclical nature of life.”
Alchemy is located at 2208 Post Office St. in Galveston.
