Beaumont Community Players will hold a general audition for those interested in participating in their upcoming 2018-2019 season. Additionally, representatives from several other community theaters and commercial producers have been invited to attend. John Manfredi, BCP executive director, is behind this new casting event.

“It’s pretty standard practice for theaters to hold a general audition prior to their upcoming season,” he said. “We will still hold our normal auditions for each show, but these auditions allow performers to showcase their talent in a way that might not be realized in a specific show audition. It also helps directors see actors in a different light than simply reading for a play. By bringing in other companies to participate, we broaden the talent pool and create opportunities for everyone.”

Port Arthur Little Theatre and Orange Community Players have been invited to have representatives at the auditions and faculty from the Lamar University Department of Theatre and Dance will also attend. Several local commercial producers have also expressed an interest in seeing the talent attending the audition.

“We hope to have at least eight to 10 people with casting authority including our own directors in attendance to view the auditions,” Manfredi said. “Any companies that are producing in 2018-2019 can still contact us to get a seat at the table as well. There are a limited number of slots, but we hope to see between 30-50 people that day.”

Auditioners are asked to come with a picture and résumé, and prepare two memorized contrasting monologues or one monologue and 32 bars of a song. The  total time per audition is not to exceed five minutes, and BCP will provide an accompanist.

In addition to casting for its upcoming season, which boasts several musicals, BCP is seeking actors for its educational outreach productions that will include some paid positions.

Interested participants need to schedule their audition appointment by calling 409-833-4664

Beaumont Community Players is located at the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts. 4155 Laurel Ave. in Beaumont.
